Day of the Dead in New York: When & Where
Finally, the wonderful time of the year is coming and we are more than ready to attend each and every one of the events that await in New York. The Day of the Dead (in Spanish Día de Muertos) is one of the most special parties for Mexico, a country from which this cult originates from celebrating the dead. Such a holiday crossed borders and arrived in New York.
Por fin esa época maravillosa del año está próxima a llegar y nosotros estamos más que preparados para asistir a todos y cada uno de los eventos que aguardan en Nueva York. El Día de Muertos (en inglés se traduciría como Day of the Dead) es una de las fiestas más especiales para México, país del que es originario este culto por celebrar a los muertos. Tal festividad traspasó fronteras y llegó a Nueva York.

The First Day of the Dead festival in New York is definitely that of Port Richmond on Staten Island. In 2019, they celebrate 27 years of making offerings and living in the community in the Chapel of Our Lady of Carmen are celebrated. This year 2 offerings will be set up with items brought by each assistant; it can be a photo, a drink or something significant for the deceased that will be remembered. Offerings have themes every year; in this, it will be that of the state of Puebla. Offerings will begin to be prepared from 9:00 am.
El primer festival de Día de Muertos en Nueva York es definitivamente el de Port Richmond en Staten Island. En 2019 se celebran 27 años de hacer ofrendas y convivir en comunidad en la Capilla de Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Este año se montarán 2 ofrendas con objetos traídos por cada asistente; puede ser una foto, una bebida o algo significativo para el difunto que será recordado. Las ofrendas tienen temas cada año; en este será el del estado de Puebla. Las ofrendas comenzarán a elaborarse desde las 9:00 am.

Tanto el Festival de Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) como el Projecto Cempasúchitl o Marigold Project están enfocados en difundir algunos de los muchos aspectos que constituyen esta celebración; tales son las simbólicas ofrendas, el folclor mexicano, la música y la elaboración de calaveritas. On November 2, a parade of people characterized as Catrinas or Calaveras will take place in New York. A parade in honor of the death at the waterfront Stapleton, Staten Island. During the parade, there will be floats with altars to honor those who we have lost over the years in an attempt to keep their memories alive. The parade will be 2 miles long and will end in the same spot as it began.
El día en que se recuerdan a los Muertos Adultos, es decir el 2 de noviembre, en Nueva York se llevará a cabo un desfile de personas caracterizadas como Catrinas o Calaveras. Este partirá del puerto de Stapleton, Staten Island.
Durante el desfile, habrá carrozas con altares para honrar a los muertos; todo ello con objetos preciados que los hagan volver a recordarlos. El desfile tendrá 2 millas de largo y terminará en el mismo lugar que comenzó.

In the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, the oldest way in which the dead were remembered in the now known Anahuac Valley, Mexico, will be remembered: with pre-Columbian music and dance by the group Cetiliztli Nauhcampa. Además una grande, hermosa y especial ofrenda estará montada para que la comunidad pueda contemplarla y aprender un poco más sobre sus elementos. Sin olvidar las actividades y manualidades para todos los asistentes sin importar su edad.
