For the second consecutive year Mexico Week: Día De Muerto is back at the Rockefeller Center. Let’s remember that last year the Jaguar alebrije was a sensation and thousands of photos of that awesome sculpture circulated all over the web. This year the sculptures presented at The Plaza are from the outstanding Menchaca Studio. They are a group of Wixarikas and sculptors who are dedicated to promoting Mexican art. And the sculpture of the Jaguar is back as the Mexica god Quetzalcóatl. In addition to 12 catrinas and an exhibition in memory of the 170th Anniversary of the Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada. Don’t forget the tianguis featuring Pan de Muerto, handcrafted artisanal goods, and Mexican food.

Por segundo año consecutivo, vuelve Mexico Week: Día De Muerto a Rockefeller Center. Recordemos que el año pasado el alebrije del Jaguar fue toda una sensación y miles de fotos de esa magnífica escultura circularon por toda la web. Este año las esculturas presentadas en El Plaza son del destacado Menchaca Studio, un grupo de wixarikas y escultores que se dedican a impulsar el arte mexicano. Se conserva dicha escultura del jaguar y se añade la del dios mexica Quetzalcóatl. Además de 12 catrinas y una exhibición del artista mexicano José Guadalupe Posada, a 170 años de su natalicio. También se integrará una ofrenda y habrá venta de pan de muerto y otros platillos mexicanos.

Join the 18th edition of the Day of the Dead celebration, which is run by the non-profit organization Mano a Mano. This event will start on Friday, October 28, and end on Sunday, October 30. From 12:00 pm and until 5:00 pm. There will be an ofrenda (offering), cempazúchil flower workshops, musical performances, and a market where Mexican folk art, papel picado, sugar skulls, Pan de Muerto, and Mexican food will be on sale.

Únete a la edición número 18 de la celebración del Día de los Muertos, que está a cargo de la organización sin fines de lucro Mano a Mano. Efectivamente, este evento comenzará el viernes 28 de octubre y finalizará el domingo 30 de octubre; el horario es a partir de las 12:00 pm y hasta las 5:00 pm. Habrá montaje de ofrenda de Día de Muertos, talleres de flores de cempazúchil, presentaciones musicales, y mercado en el que se pondrá a la venta arte popular mexicano, papel picado, calaveritas de azúcar, pan de muerto y comida mexicana.

Queens Museum

The Day of the Dead celebration at Queens Museum will take place thanks to the organization of La Jornada, the Queens Museum Cultural Food Pantry, and the Ecuadorian Film Festival. It will feature a movie screening, musical and dance performances, as well as activities and crafts for the whole family. You can also add your own offering, with personal elements and some decorations according to the day.

Bajo la organización de La Jornada, la Despensa Cultural de alimentos del Museo de Queens y el Festival de Cine Ecuatoriano, se llevará a cabo la celebración de Día de los Muertos. Contará con una proyección de películas, espectáculos musicales y de danza, así como actividades y manualidades para toda la familia. Además puedes agregar tu propia ofrenda, con elementos personales y algunos adornos acordes al día.

Si disfrutas las puestas en escena y deseas aprender un poco más sobre esta tradición mexicana, no te puedes perder la obra presentada por la Compañía Mexicana de Danza Calpulli. En ella se abordará el tema del amor y cómo traspasa la muerte. Los protagonistas visitan en el inframundo mexica y se encuentran cara a cara con la reina Catrina. Disfruta de música folclórica y clásica se mezclan con bailes vibrantes, coloridos disfraces, maquillaje y hermosas escenografías.
