Columbus Weekend is the first long weekend in October, and it’s observed in our city. The Spanish and Italian communities in New York prepare parades and other parties to commemorate this day. There will also be a series of activities that will surely arouse your interest. In the next lines, we will talk about it.


Uno de los fines de semanas largos en otoño es el que corresponde al Columbus Day (en español también es conocido como el Día del Descubrimiento de América); y muchas personas aprovechan para disfrutar de las actividades que se realizan en toda la ciudad, pues incluso algunas alusivas a la Navidad están por inaugurarse. Así que te enumeraremos algunas que quizá te interesen y las disfrutes con tu familia.

2019 Columbus Day Parade

The starring event of Columbus Day is absolutely the Parade that will march through the streets of Manhattan, starting at 44th St and 5th. Avenue. This event is organized by the FDNY Columbia Association and the Columbus Citizens Foundation. If you could not attend, the parade will be broadcast on ABC7 NY and on abc7ny.com.


El evento principal de Columbus Day es sin duda alguna el desfile que marchará por las calles de Manhattan, iniciando en la calle 44 y la 5a. Avenida. Where: The parade marches up Fifth Ave, from 44th St to 77th St in Midtown

The Hispanic community is also involved with the arrival of Columbus in America, as it was the Catholic Monarchs who financed the expedition of the Genoese admiral. Knowing this, a parade will also be held in NYC in which the Spanish-speaking communities that inhabit the Great City will participate. La comunidad hispana está también involucrada con la llegada de Colón a América, pues fueron los Reyes Católicos quienes financiaron la expedición del almirante genovés. Redhawk Indigenous People Day Pow Wow

The Redhawks are native artists that represent the native cultures inhabiting the territory that we now know as the United States of America. His intervention in the Columbus Day commemorations will be with dances, songs and other live events that go back to the honorable activities that his ancestors celebrated before being reduced by the growing European community that came to the New World.


Los Halcones Rojos son artistas nativos que representan a las culturas originarias habitantes del territorio que ahora conocemos como los Estados Unidos de Norteamérica. Su intervención en las conmemoraciones del Columbus Day será con bailes, cantos y otros actos en vivo que remontan a las actividades honorables que sus ancestros celebraban antes de ser reducidos por la creciente comunidad europea que llegaba al Nuevo Mundo.
